About Us

In 2000 there was much talk about the county and city demolishing the old school complex on Main Street. The Emporia-Greensville Chamber of Commerce took the lead role in forming a task force to look into the possibility of saving the auditorium.

Petitions were signed and two public meetings were held giving people an opportunity to express their opinions. Also, board members spoke to many clubs and organizations and requested that they fill out a questionaire giving their opinion on the future use of the auditorium.

The task force determined that the community wanted to save the auditorium. It was necessary that a foundation be organized to continue the effort to save the facility. This was done in 2001 and the foundation applied for and received a 501c(3) tax status.

In the years that followed the board of directors continued their efforts to save the auditorium.
